About Free Systems
Free Systems is a research program dedicated to building, testing, and breaking the prototypes that will define whether AI-powered governance preserves human liberty or quietly extinguishes it.
The program is organized into three layers — Information, Representation, and Governance — that build on each other to address the full stack of challenges that arise when AI becomes a political actor.
The Approach
Every prototype follows a three-part methodology: build something that works, find out how it breaks, and synthesize what we learned. All code, data, and analysis are shared publicly through the Free Systems Substack.
We believe that the design choices being made right now — in AI labs, corporate boardrooms, and regulatory agencies — will shape the relationship between humans and AI governance for decades to come. The best way to influence those choices is to build concrete prototypes, demonstrate what works and what fails, and make the research available to everyone.
